“I Achieved My Dream Despite the Criticism”: Hiba Abu Gamia — Egypt’s First Female Performance Analyst in Men’s Football
Cairo – Maii Abdo:
For Hiba Abu Gamia, football has always been more than just a sport—it was a lifelong passion and an intellectual pursuit. From a young age, she viewed the game through an analytical lens, studying player movements and tactical structures rather than merely following the scoreline. Although her family initially discouraged her, believing football to be a “men’s domain,” their reservations only strengthened her determination to follow her dream.
Hiba chose a career path that kept her connected to the sport she loved. She studied journalism and began her professional journey in sports media, yet her fascination with the finer tactical details of the game soon led her to take a bold step forward—to specialize in performance analysis. In a field traditionally dominated by men, Hiba made the decision to break barriers and prove that women, too, could excel in the technical and analytical aspects of football. Her early experience at Wadi Degla Club was instrumental in shaping her career.
Through years of dedication, she gained deep practical knowledge of match analysis, performance tracking, and tactical evaluation. Her exceptional skill and commitment later earned her an unprecedented opportunity: to join Masar Football Club’s men’s team as their Head Performance Analyst—a historic first in Egyptian football.> “I didn’t just want to prove myself,” she recalls. “I wanted to prove that women can analyze, guide, and contribute on the field with the same competence and confidence as men.”
From Journalism to Performance Analysis: A Trailblazing PathHiba’s career began in sports journalism, where her editors quickly recognized her analytical abilities and deep tactical insight. One editor decided to hire her solely based on her understanding of the game, despite her limited experience at the time—a decision that marked the beginning of her transition from observer to active contributor.Yet, Hiba aspired to go beyond commentary and take part in the heart of the action.
Joining Wadi Degla gave her the opportunity to work directly with coaching teams, where she learned to interpret match data, assess player performance, and develop technical reports that informed strategic decisions. Her meticulous approach soon made her an indispensable member of the technical staff.—Education and Professional DevelopmentDetermined to solidify her expertise, Hiba pursued advanced training and professional certifications, including:
A Fundamental Coaching Course from the Egyptian Olympic CommitteeA Diploma from the Olympic InstituteAn International Certificate from FCE GlobalA Tactical Analysis Course from the Barcelona Sports Center, Spain> “I wasn’t just studying theory,” she explains. “I applied everything I learned on the field. Even if I had to watch a match from a rooftop—as I once did—I made sure my analysis was accurate and complete.”
Breaking Boundaries with Masar Club
Hiba’s defining career milestone came with a phone call from Captain Mohamed Barakat, Head Coach of Masar Club’s men’s team, inviting her to join his coaching staff as the team’s Lead Performance Analyst. It was an unprecedented move in Egyptian men’s football, and one that demonstrated a growing recognition of women’s capabilities in professional sports.
“I worked with passion, focus, and conviction,” Hiba says. “I never viewed myself as a woman in a men’s environment—I simply saw myself as an analyst committed to excellence.”
Leadership, Inspiration, and Influence

Her journey underscores a powerful truth: success is not defined by gender but by skill, discipline, and passion.Through every report and tactical analysis she delivers, Hiba continues to challenge perceptions and redefine expectations.
“There’s no such thing as a ‘man’s job,’” she asserts. “There are only professions that require passion—and women have just as much of it as men.”
A Distinctive Female Perspective in Football
In a domain still largely male-dominated, Hiba has left an indelible mark through her professionalism and analytical precision. She has earned the respect of coaches and players alike, not only for her technical competence but for her unique perspective—one that integrates data-driven insight with emotional intelligence and attention to the subtleties often overlooked in the game.
