“Real reform doesn’t come from flattery — it starts with honesty and clarity.”With this statement, Hesham Tawfik, former Minister of Public Enterprise and candidate for the presidency of Heliopolis Sporting Club, began his calm and insightful conversation during a meeting held at the club’s main branch in Heliopolis.
His tone reflected experience, confidence, and a firm belief that progress is built on transparency, not promises.Throughout the discussion, Tawfik presented a practical and financially driven reform plan, emphasizing that the club’s sustainability depends on responsible management and open communication with its members.
A true son of Heliopolis, Tawfik’s family has been part of the club’s community for decades. Educated at the American University in Cairo in Economics and Business Administration, and holding an MBA in Finance from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, he built a rich professional path spanning finance, investment, and government leadership.
He co-founded EFG Hermes, served as Advisor to the Minister of Finance between 2005 and 2007, and worked with APICORP in treasury and capital markets. Later, he founded Arabia Online, Egypt’s first online trading company, before venturing into the solar energy sector in 2014 — a move that reflected his forward-looking mindset and belief in sustainability.
Appointed Minister of Public Enterprise in 2018, Tawfik oversaw complex restructuring projects for Egypt’s state-owned companies.
Today, he returns to his roots at Heliopolis Club, determined to apply his extensive experience in finance and management to serve its members.> “The fundamentals of management never change,” he explained.

At the core of Tawfik’s program lies a realistic financial plan designed to restore balance between revenues and expenses through efficient spending, new investment channels, and long-term sustainability.
“We can’t fix problems we don’t face,” he said. “Some decisions may be difficult, like adjusting fees, but they’re necessary to protect the club’s stability and future.”
Beyond financial management, Tawfik envisions a revitalized Heliopolis Club — one that reconnects with its vibrant community spirit.
He aims to reenergize member engagement through cultural activities, educational workshops, and modern spaces for youth and families alike. “Sports are not just about championships — they’re a way of life.
