Samar Ibrahim has been honored with the Mohamed Essa El-Sharkawy Award for Foreign Coverage at the 2025 Egyptian Press Awards, held at the Egyptian Journalists’ Syndicate. This recognition celebrates her remarkable series of reports covering the war in Sudan.Receiving this award, Samar expressed her deep appreciation, describing it as a tribute to the vital role of journalism in conveying the truth from conflict zones.
She reflected on her experience reporting from Sudan, calling it profoundly challenging, surrounded by the suffering of civilians, the survival stories of those affected by violence, and the immense human cost of war that must not continue.”This award,” she said, “I dedicate to the Sudanese people and to the fallen Sudanese journalists who paid the ultimate price for truth.

On this occasion, I hope for an end to the war in Sudan and the establishment of peace, which is no longer just a political choice but an ethical and humanitarian imperative.”The ceremony was attended by the head of the Journalists’ Syndicate, Khaled El-Belshi, alongside leading figures in Egyptian journalism and media.
The award recognizes Samar Ibrahim’s courage, dedication, and exclusive reporting from the frontlines, bringing the realities of war to the world.
